Christmas Tour coming up… Last of the Poets… More
Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies start their annula Christmas Tour – this year entitled “Ice Cold In Alnwick” – at Upwood Village Hall near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on December 12th. Benny Graham is the special guest on the show, as usual. The tour ends on December 27th, with two shows, afternoon and evening, at The Sage in Gateshead. Tickets for the top level of this venue have just been put on sale, due to the demand for seats. We can expect some new songs, some old favourites and the usual comic antics from the the band at these shows, which will end what has been a very busy year for Jez. No change there then!… The final Pitmen Poets concert took place at The Great British Folk Festival at Butlins, Skegness last weekend. Over two thousand people attended the show, which saw the band bow out in fine form. Everyone is asking if the quartet will be playing together again in the future, and the reaction to the all their concerts over the past three months has given them pause for thought on what was to be their final tour. Watch this space for further news on this… Jez played two solo shows last week, and a set-list from his gig in Sunderland shows just how many new and unrecorded songs are now in his act. Yet there is no sign of a new album, almost five years since his last on, “The Ballad Beyond”. The impending box-set reissue, “The Fellside Years”, means that we will be unlikely to see anything brand new in 2020. Let’s hope the situation changes at some point in the future. The set list, from The Blue Bell, Sunderland, last Thursday – Set One – TETHER’S END / PROPPING / PITMEN POETS / ANOTHER MAN’S WIFE / THE ELVES HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING / DANDELION CLOCKS / GREEK LIGHTNING / HONEYMOON TERRACE. Set Two – THIS IS NOT MY TRIBE / SODA MAN / CHRISTMAS IN AUSTRALIA / TEARDROP TWO STEP / YANKEE BOOTS / LATCHKEY LOVER / TALK TO ME / HIGH PART OF THE TOWN. Encore – THE FROZEN ROMAN.
