Crazy Pagan – New album details…
“Crazy Pagan” is the title of Jez’s new album, due for release on November 1st.
It features twelve tracks, and it’s a real solo album, recorded by Jez during “lockdown” during June, July and August, multi-tracking himself on various instruments, and then mixed by David De La Haye, bass-player with The Bad Pennies, who has been in charge of all of Jez’s albums for the last decade. This is Jez’s first solo album for six years, (since “The Ballad Beyond” in 2014), though we’ve had collaborations with Steve Tilston, The Pitmen Poets and a live archive release with James Keelaghan in the meantime.
Here’s the track-listing of the new album –
SHAKING MONTY / THIS IS NOT MY TRIBE / LOUISA’S CHOOSING / TIME RICH, CASH POOR / FARMER SUN / HIGH HANDENHOLD / THREE INDIAN KINGS / HONEYMOON TERRACE / LOON IN THE MOON / COAL MOUTAIN / TALK TO ME DIRTY IN GEORDIE / THE CORLY CROONS
Jez has been playing a few of these songs at his live gigs for a while and has included some of them in on-line shows in recent months. THIS IS NOT MY TRIBE is already well-known from the video clip on Jez’s website, and COAL MOUNTAIN was included in The Pitmen Poet’s repertoire on their last concert tour (though this new album version has the unique feature of being a duet with a pit-shaft… You really need to hear it to believe it…). Also, one track was recorded live in concert, the intriguingly titled TALK TO ME DIRTY IN GEORDIE, and the audience reaction on the track tells you all you need to know about this particular song! Most surprising of all perhaps is the album’s final track, THE CORLY CROONS, which shares its title with, and is inspired by, Jez’s most recent novel, and is described in the sleeve notes to the album as a “lockdown sea-shanty”.
