Feb 7th 2017 – News Round-up

The Pitmen Poets still have almost two more weeks of concerts left of their current tour, many of which, including London’s King’s Place on February 15th, are ALMOST sold out. Much of the lads’ antics, both on and off the stage, are being filmed, we hear, so although this is widely believed to be the last tour of this kind for the quartet (though this is far from certain at this point), it looks like there’ll be visual evidence of the project at some point in the future.
The new album, “More Black Diamonds”, though essentially a post-concert momento rather than a promoted release, is getting airplay and reviews around the country. As yet, there’s no sign of formal distribution, either domestically or overseas…

Jez took time out for a solo gig at Harthill in South Yorkshire last weekend, and the set-list that was sent to us from Rodney Allen (thank you!) includes rare outings for A SKIN TOO THIN, BIG FEAR (both from the soon-to-be-re-released “Honesty Box” album), CHICK HENDERSON’S MARCH and CURSED BE THE CALLER. He’s out solo this coming weekend too, at Teignmouth in Devon on Saturday night – see the gig-list for details…

Jez’s tour with Steve Tilston starts on March 17th at Buxton Opera House, and lasts through to Glenfarg Folk Feast in Perthshire on April 9th. The pair will also be at several UK festivals this summer, including Raunds, Warwick, Wickham and the Edinburgh Fringe. There’s a great review of their new album, “The Janus Game”, in the new edition of fRoots Magazine, and don’t forget the interview feature in the current Living Tradition Magazine, both now available.
