Jez lowe – Culture Vulture!

May 28, 2012

Jez will be attending this Friday’s launch of the Lost Library of Alcuin Exhibition at York University here in the UK, which has used his 1993 song BEDE WEEPS as part of it’s soundtrack music. “This exhibition tells the story of the remarkable eighth-century school of York, how the books were collected, the renown of the school and the breadth of its curriculum. But, despite the rich and vivid evidence about the school and its people, this is a lost library, with no books now extant that can be certainly assigned to it. So this exhibition is about the ghost of the library and is a memorial to a lost library which was massively influential through Alcuin’s work on the Continent. The exhibition uses photographs rather than real manuscripts, primarily of eighth-century books in Anglo-Saxon and Caroline minuscule, alongside some specially made work by local calligraphers to tell the story of the lost library”… A Spanish language film feature called “Un Paso Por Delante” has used part of Jez’s 1998 recoding LIMPING DRINKER’S POLKA as part of it’s soundtrack. The film was made by ex-Merseyside songwriter Peter Edgerton, an old friend of Jez… Jez himself plays at Wolviston Folk Club, Teeside on Thursday, hosted by The Wilson Family – Jez shared a high-school classroom with Chris Wilson, back in the day, and he and the whole clan have been friends for decades. Should be quite a night!
