Jez on Radio Shropshire last weekend…

Jez was invited back to BBC Radio Shropshire’s folk programme by Genevieve Tudor last weekend, and talked extensively about his latest novel, The Corly Croons. He even read a section of it over the air as part of the show. The interview was interspersed with songs from the recent Fellside Collection boxset, and more significantly, Jez did mention that he hoped to have an album of new songs out before the end of 2020. We’ve already been getting “tasters” of new material at live gigs over the past few months, and it’s obvious that he has a large store of new material waiting to be recorded. And not before time – his last album of original songs was The Ballad Beyond in 2014, a full six years ago – though in the meantime we’ve had an album of tradional songs (The Dillen Doll) and a joint album with Steve Tilston (The Janus Game), as well as two novels, so obviously Jez hasn’t been idle in the interim! The release of the recent Fellside boxset has no doubt also meant a delay in releasing new material. Quite when Jez will have time to record a new album, judging by his touring schedule for the rest of 2020, is also an issue. We’ll keep you posted. (Photo by Allan Clarke at BBC Radio Shropshire)
