More Olympics Ballads news… Edinburgh CD… London gig…
July 6, 2012
The second episode of Ballad of The Games goes out next Monday at 10pm on Radio 2 and is based around the 1936 Munich Olympics. Two of Jez’s songs are featured, both sung by him (unusually) – JESSE OWENS’ SHOES and PALUSALU, the former already familiar to audiences at Jez’s gigs in recent months, the latter a very unusual song about an Estonian wrestler, with a very dynamic melody and backing in a “wild” time-signature! Reaction to the opening show was very positive, except, predictably, on the Mudcat website, which featured a tirade of condemnation, posted BEFORE the first show was even broadcast! And almost all anonymously of course… There’s a new CD coming next month featuring artists recorded live at the prestigious Edinburgh Folk Club. Jez is included, playing a solo version of YANKEE BOOTS, a song popularised in Scotland by The McCalmans on their CD of a few years ago… Jez has a rare London solo gig next Monday, in Croydon in fact, at Ruskin House, just opposite Fairfield Halls. Tickets are still available – see the LIVE DATES page of this site.
