Sometimers… Pitmen Poets… and more

The Tilston Lowe Sometimes played a show at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge last week, rapturously received by all accounts, but with no other shows coming up for the foreseeable future. The quartet, in which Jez and Steve are joined by Hugh Bradley and Chris Parkinson (also members of The Broonzies with Jez, don’t forget), will not be back together until Whitby Folk Festival in August. Their set-list last week included most of the “Janus Game” album, plus a smattering of solo songs from Jez and Steve given the four-piece treatment (see photo below)… At the end of next week, Jez is back with The Pitmen Poets for a one-off performance in Matlock in Derbyshire. It is hoped that the band will be together again next year for a full-scale UK tour – perhaps we’ll have more information on that after next week’s gig… Recording for the upcoming BBC Radio Four programme Open Country, which will be centred around Jez’s novel “The Dillen Doll”, has been put back until mid-April. When the programme will be broadcast is unclear. Watch this space… Jez will doing a special, exclusive reading and performance based on “The Dillen Doll” at The People’s Bookshop in Durham in November. There are several other such performances in the planning, including, as previously mentioned, one at Sidmouth Folk festival in August… There’s been a few extra gigs added to the LIVE DATES page of this website in recent days, including one on The Wirral on April 29th. Don’t forget Jez has a solo appearance at Cromer’s Folk on the Pier Festival on May 11th… Jez has also written some songs for Kate Bramley’s Badapple Theatre production of “Amy Johnson”, which will start a FORTY FIVE date UK tour on April 5th.
