Beverley picJez dipped back into his “trad roots” at last weekend’s Northumbrian Minstrelsy concert at Gateshead’s Sage, performing four songs, MY KEEL LAD, BEAUMONT’S LIGHT HORSE, I’LL NEVER GET HOME/OLD DURHAM WALTZ MEDLEY and HEXHAMSHIRE LASS, which he introduced as a tribute to the late Judy Dinning. He was backed by Andy May on piano or smallpipes throughout, and they were also joined by fiddler Stewart Hardy on BEAUMONT’S LIGHT HORSE (from Jez’s 1980 debut album, no less!)…

Jez is back with The Pitmen Poets this weekend, with appearances at Cleckheaton Folk Festival on Friday, and at Blyth Phoenix Theatre on Saturday. The first of these also features a “meet the band” session, as well as the concert…

Numerous official clips from the recent Beverley Folk Festival are now up on You Tube, including several of Jez from his Saturday main-stage performance, complete with spoken introductions! The photo here, also from that same show, is by Paul Newsom…

Jez’s next gig with Steve Tilston is at Bromsgrove Festival on July 9th. Rumours of some brand new material in the offing…
