The Broonzies – featuring Jez Lowe, Maggie Holland, Rod Clements, Ian Thompson and Chris Parkinson – are back in action this weekend, with two “warm-up” gigs prior to their summer UK festival shows. They’re at The Causeway in Hartlepool on Saturday, and at Green Hammerton Village Hall near York on Sunday – details on the LIVE DATES page of this site. The band also has a Facebook page that is worth checking out, and a website at www.broonzies.weebly.com, with their “life story and family background”, all of which makes entertaining reading… Before that, Jez has a rare show in South Wales at Newport Folk Club, tomorrow (Thursday)… Coming soon from Germany-based Celtic band Broom Bezzoms, is a great cover version of Jez’s song BARE KNUCKLE, on their new album out soon. Andrew Cadie, one of the band, played with The Bad Pennies on a couple of tours a few years ago, and is also heard on the studio version of SIMIAN SON on Jez’s “Heads Up” compilation CD… The title of the forthcoming album of “forced child migration” songs, inspired by the forthcoming exhibition at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, is “On Their Own”, also the name of the exhibition itself. As previously mentioned, Jez has written four new songs for the album, and recorded them last week with producer John Leonard. More details, including the titles of the songs, should be available soon.broonzies davy
