Jez is once more renewing his ambition to steer the band along a music-hall/vaudeville route, encompassing elements of folk, seasonal songs, music hall comedy and parody into this year’s Christmas show. The biggest surprise is just how much new material is included. There is also an impressively unusual stage set, even in the small village hall where we saw the opening night. And the “beach party” theme is revealed to hold a hidden twist that pervades the night’s theme. When oh when will The Bad Pennies get around to releasing all these songs ona Christmas album? Only four more shows to go on this tour – next year will hopefully be more extensive.
