Jez has a month of solo gigs in the UK coming up throughout November, and the The Bad Pennies join him for the annual Christmas tour (“Lost Christmas!”) in December. There’s one London gig on this tour, at The Corner House in Surbiton on December 4th, but most of the other shows are in the Midlands and the North. As usual, all the band members are incredibly busy with their own projects, so tour dates are limited by those commitments, but there are still FIFTEEN dates on the tour, so it’s not exactly a small schedule. We’re promised a slew of new material for this tour, and in fact Jez has already shared a new Christmas song on his PATREON page, ironically titled “Santa Claus Again”… Full details of the Christmas tour are on the LIVE DATES page of this website.
Jez announced on his Facebook page last week that he’s been invited to do a few shows next year based around his novel-writing alter-ego, featuring, “talking, discussing, reading and a bit of singing”. More invitations have since come in, at libraries, bookshops and festivals, so watch out for those, and if anyone is interested in promoting/suggesting similar gigs, please contact us through this website’s contact page. All of Jez’s novels are still available, with his third book, “Piper’s Lonnen” just having had its second printing. A second printing of novel number four, “The Keeker Seam” is due in January.
Jez continues to delve deeply into his repertoire for songs sung on his current solo shows, including rarities like VIKINGS, JESSE OWEN’S SHOES, THE SEA AND THE DEEP BLUE DEVIL and MADDISON all showing will hopefully be available for viewing at some point soon., along with a clutch of new songs, in recent weeks.
At the recent Hartlepool Folk Festival, Jez contributed two songs, THESE COAL TOWN DAYS and COAL MOUNTAIN, to a star-studded concert (including Peggy Seeger, Kathryn Tickell, Sandra Kerr and a brass band) commemorating the anniversary of the 1984 Miners Strike, on the latter of which he was joined by The Wilsons, North East England’s celebrated family of singing brothers, on chorus vocals. As was mentioned at the show, Jez and The Wilsons “go back a long way”, and in fact, Chris Wilson and Jez were at high-school together! The whole concert was professionally filmed and recorded, and will hopefully be available for viewing sometime soon.
