Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies annual end of year tour begins this coming weekend at Otley Court House in Yorkshire, and runs throughout December until the final pair of shows at The Glasshouse in Gateshead on December 21st.
It’s a relatively short tour this year, and confined to England only, but it’s a new show, as it always is, this time entitled “Winter Wanderings”. Line-up for the band is Jez, Andy May, Kate Bramley and David De La Haye, with no guest appearances this time around. Several of the venues are already sold out, with very few tickets remaining for the rest of them. The two shows at The Glasshouse, at 2pm and 7pm have had extra seats made available, so there are still tickets left for both of those shows.

Jez begins a run of solo gigs on Januaryn8th at York’s Black Swan, continuing mostly in the north of England, but with one London date, at The Cabbage Patch in Twickenham on January 25th.

Next year will see Jez back with The Pitmen Poets in July for a UK tour, and also reunited with James Keelaghan for shows in Canada in November. There’s also a reunion on the cards with Steve Tilston in October, more news of which we’ll be sharing in the New Year. The Bad Pennies also have a bunch of UK gigs lined up in February, details of which are already on the LIVE DATES page of this website.

Many of us will be glad to hear that Jez’s FIFTH novel is due for publication in June, and as expected is a continuation of the adventures of Evan Piper and his cronies who have featured in the last three books. Again there is a strong “folk music” element to the new story, set as usual in late 19th century Tyneside. We’ll have more details as the publication date gets closer.

Reviews and radio-play for Jez’s latest CD “Oubliette” continue to come in, and Jez is featuring many of the songs in his current live set, and example of which, from last weekend’s gig in Whitby, was sent in by Linda and John Farrow, to whom thanks.

Set One – SILVER SPOON / OLD BONES / LATCHKEY LOVER / OUBLIETTE / A MESSAGE FROM A MANDOLIN / BROCKIE LADS / CHRISTMAS IN AUSTRALIA / TAKING ON MEN. Set Two – FREEBODY’S WAKE / PITMEN POETS / WE’LL HUNT HIM DOWN / THIS IS NOT MY TRIBE / THE CHECK-OUT QUEUE / SANCTUARY LAND / SANTA CLAUS AGAIN / HANDS FEET. Encore –  BARRY AND THE ANTHRACITES.
So, some seasonal songs already creeping in, plus a couple of new ones too!
Jez’s final solo gig of the year is on Friday in Stafford, then it’s full steam ahead for the “Winter Wanderings” tour.
