The BBC local TV programme Look North filmed a segment featuring Jez talking about his novel “The Dillen Doll” last week, with transmission due within the next ten days – watch this space for the exact date. He sang brief excerpts of the DOL LI A song, upon which the story is based, and of MIKE NEVILLE SAID IT SO IT MUST BE TRUE. Mike Neville was the presenter of Look North back in the 1990s, when Jez wrote the song, and footage of he and The Bad Pennies performing it on the show in 1994 has recently been unearthed and may also feature in the upcoming broadcast. Line-up for the band at that time was Bev Sanders, Bob Surgeoner and Billy Surgeoner… Meanwhile, Jez is guest presenter on the BBC Radio 4 programme Open Country, which will be recorded at Tynemouth later this week. Again, broadcast dates and content of the programme is yet to be announced. Watch this space… Jez is on the road this week, starting at the Folk On The Pier Festival in Cromer on Friday (an afternoon show), and on to Kingston in Devon, Reading and Ringwood… Two shows have been cancelled – Jez and Steve Tilston were due to appear at Milngavie near Glasgow on June 8th, but the organiser has suddenly scheduled another concert instead, so that is now off. Also the concert on June 30th in Jez’s hometown of Easington Colliery has also been called off by the organisers due to unspecified problems. There’s no word on new dates for either of these gigs… (Pic shows Jez at Topsham near Exeter last week)
