News round-up… Another BBC Radio 4 show rumoured… New songs…

The word is that Jez has been asked to appear again as the presenter on BBC Radio 4’s “Open Country” programme, in an edition to be recorded next month. It would be his third appearance as anchor man on this show. More details about this when we have them…

Someone who describes himself as a “new convert” sent in a set-list from Jez’s recent solo show at The Square Chapel in Halifax , West Yorkshire and it’s quite a list – Set One : WILL OF THE PEOPLE, TAKING ON MEN, PITMEN POETS, SHAKING MONTY, LOUISA’S CHOOSING, A MESSAGE FROM A MANDOLIN, PIPER’S LONNEN, TALK TO ME DIRTY IN GEORDIE. Set Two : FREEBODY’S WAKE, NAMES, FELLA IN THE CHECK-OUT QUEUE, THIS IS NOT MY TRIBE, BACK IN DURHAM GAOL, SANCTUARY LAND, FROZEN ROMAN, OLD BONES. Encore – CHRISTMAS IN AUSTRALIA. We count FOUR unrecorded songs in that list, plus FOUR from the last album, ONE from the recent Pitmen Poets album and one from Jez’s recent six-track CD. There was also a reading from his most recent novel at one point in the set too! So all in all, it seems he’s stepping out somewhat in his choice of songs on these end-of-the-year solo gigs, of which there are four more to come before the start of the Bad Pennies Christmas tour…
