Tantobie Records have confirmed that Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies will be releasing a new album to coincide with their Christmas tour this year. It’s touted as being “limited edition”, and likely to be available only at selected concerts, and not distributed elsewhere as previous albums have been.
Producer and bass-player David De La Haye is working on the album right now, while Jez is on tour in America, and artwork for the album is also being finalised. The album features much of the original material that the band have featured at their Christmas shows over the last few years, most of which has remained unreleased until now. Benny Graham, a fixture as special guest at all the Christmas shows, is featured throughout the album, and has several of his contributions included. The exact track-listing will be made available in a couple of weeks, as will the title…
Other news – Jez’s current US tour is going well, with gigs in Baltimore MD and Hartford CT still to come. A set-list from one of last weekend’s shows includes SPITTING COUSINS, WORKING DIRTY, DOVER DELAWARE, THE MIAMI, BIG MEETING DAY, AUSTERITY ALPHABET, VIKINGS and SNOW TO NOVA SCOTIA…
That last song is from the recently released “Songs of Child Migration” album, and it was announced last week that the entire cast of that project will be performing the songs from the album at Glasgow’s Celtic Connection on January 19th.
As well as that, Jez will be appearing at the festival with Archie Fisher and James Keelaghan in the UK debut of their Men At Words collaboration on January 24th. Both events will be shoe-horned into free nights during the Pitmen Poets UK tour… And fellow Pitmen Poet Bob Fox has covered Jez’s song THE WRONG BUS on his new album, just released.
