Jez’s tour with Bob Fox and Julie Matthews, “In The Footsteps of Ewan MacColl” finally came to a close last weekend, and what a stirring success it turned out to be. Twenty-two shows in four weeks, with the newly-formed trio playing a whole night of mostly unproven and unfamiliar songs and narrative was also going to be a huge undertaking, but it seems to have captured the imagination of audiences all over the country. And it seems very likely that another tour will be taking place next year, featuring a revamp of the same show, but with the potential of tackling some of the later Radio Ballads material in subsequent tours. In other words, all three of the musicians involved seem to have a long-term commitment to this project. No doubt we’ll have more news on all this at some point in the future, but in the meantime, Jez expresses his thanks for all the support and plaudits that these recent shows have received.
Jez spends the rest of June playing solo gigs around the UK, starting in Scotland this week, and including a set of shows in the South East of England, plus a few in his native North East. Full details on the LIVE DATES page of this website.
Jez returns to Edinburgh Festival Fringe on August 23rd with Andy May, in a show entitled “Songs, Strings and Smallpipes”, a new presentation following their success at the Fringe last year. Jez and Andy very rarely play as duo outside of their usual Bad Pennies roles, so this show really is something to relish. Incidentally, the entire Bad Pennies will be playing together at Moira Furnace Folk Festival on August 18th, their only festival appearance this year.
